This project is centered around the problems Semco Maritime have when looking through propositions from their suppliers.
The problem statement is: How can comparison of propositions from suppliers in the Large Project department at Semco Maritime A/S be optimized?
The report is conducted by having interviews about the problem with managers from Semco. After the interviews we knew there were optimizing possibilities. The project relates to the theory of both Six Sigma and Lean optimization tools to analyses on the problem.
After having analyzed the data and the interviews, the project showed us that optimization was possible. This was demonstrated in a comparison sheet which was developed in the program Microsoft Excel. The program has initially been tested internally to see if improvement was possible. After a successful initial test, the program was tested on a real project. This test succeeded very well which showed us that time consumption for the comparison was reduced when having to decide which supplier had the best price, warranty, delivery times etc.
When using the new excel sheet, the employees do not have to manually move data into the sheet anymore, as the suppliers now have the responsibility to secure that the information written in the sheet, is true to the offer they made. This led us to the conclusion, that time consumption was reduced and possible also the error rate by using the new program.
