This report has been prepared as a part of the last semester of the bachelor education as a marine engineer. The education has been implemented at Aarhus School of Maritime and Technical Engineering.
The internship has been held at “Hospitalsenheden Horsens”, where the problem is that the cooling requirement has excided the cooling power. This report will describe their current central cooling plant and its strengths and weaknesses, further more this report will describe the distribution of their cooling water, especially because of the weaknesses it has. Therefore some improvements, which will lead to a better distribution, are described.
An analysis about the cooling requirement the hospital has is one of the main subjects to be treated. During the last three years, different cooling contractors have been used when installing cooling units, which has led to the point, where the central cooling plant has become too small, compared to its power. An updated list of all units has been made, at the same time a chart of the piping for distribution of cooling water has been updated, for a better view of all current installed units.
All new units that have been found and noted has given a new cooling power that is required, therefore an analysis for the need of all these units will be treated.
The fact that the central cooling plant has become to small, is leading to that a new and larger plant must be designed. Such as which parameter are true when constructing a new cooling plant, also refrigerants must be considered in connection with the environment. How to build a new plant most reliable is also one of the main subjects combined with how to distribute the cooling water in the future. At the end a description of the most obvious way to design a new cooling plant, will be described, related to economy, environment and reliability.
