The title of this bachelor project is “Change Management” with the subtitle, “Streamlining of a production with management philosophy, based on production mapping” and is written in the last part of the education as Bachelor of Technology Management and Marine Engineering. The education is conducted at Aarhus School of Marine and Technical Engineering and the report is made in cooperation with the company Justsen Energiteknik A/S in which I have completed my internship during the present semester.
This bachelor project is based on the company Justsen Energiteknik A/S, who is manufacturing parts to bio fuel combustion plants in the size of 300 kW to 20 MW boiler effect.
The company is in the middle of a change with their management strategy. They have always managing the entire contract with each costumer. Now Justsen wants to be specialists within their knowledge of key components, and therefore be a subcontractor to a business partner. The production needs to convert into more mass production like gives a lot of challenges.
During my internship at Justsen I have noticed some rumors that the production took too much attention of time with the conversion of the production strategy. The management wanted to optimize the costs of the production, and get an even better production flow to manufacturing these specialized components. So I started to analyze the all the components in the production, in the perspective of mapping all the costs in manufacturing their components. The subset of this analysis was the water-cooled grate stood out from the other components in the matter of costs and time spending making them.
The second part of the project deals with theory of production management. Through analysis of the department of the grate production I discuss how Lean management can optimize this part of the production. Through Kurt Lewin's change model I am presenting the possibility of implementing Lean in the company.
