Guest lecturer from Singapore arrives next week

Senior lecturer Joseph Lee Kong Loo from Singapore Maritime Academy will be teaching at the STCW elective from October 21 until December 8.

Joseph's visit in Denmark is a part of our exchange coorporation with the academy in Singapore. As he comes here, we send Preben Steffensen to Singapore, where Preben will be teaching Joseph's classes. As a matter of fact, Preben has already left Denmark and is now getting acquainted with with the local customs before his teaching start.

Tomorrow we will be posting news about Preben's first impressions of Singapore!

Joseph arrives next week and will be staying at Flemming Hauge Petersens place during his visit. Last year Flemming spent three months in Singapore teaching, and he already know Joseph very well.

Joseph is 52 years old, is married and has two children. He is a marine engineer and started his career as shipboard marine engineer and obtained the Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 1 and worked as Chief Engineer from period 1985 to 1992. Subsequently he came ashore and was involved in various aspects of the maritime career spanning from being a marine technical superintendent, marine insurance surveyor to position as surveyor with MPA.

The stint with MPA involved port State control, flag State control matters, conducting marine CoC examination and investigation into maritime accidents that occurred onboard Singapore registered ships and within Singapore waters.
Later he left MPA for Singapore Polytechnic in 2000 to become a lecturer; teaching mainly marine engineering and other subjects such as Basic Safety Training, Specialist Diploma in Shipping Business and conduct Boiler Attendant courses and examinations on behalf of the Ministry of Manpower. During stint with SP, he achieved an MBA in Maritime Management conferred by the Australian Maritime College, now a specialized institute of the University of Tasmania.

Besides teaching as main responsibility and part of the Academic management team, Joseph is placed in charge of financial management and Course Chair for the Diploma in the Marine Engineering course of Singapore Maritime Academy. Having earlier served as a Lieutenant with SAF (Singapore Armed Forces), he is now a volunteer service man holding a key appointment position as Chief Engineer with the officer rank of Major with the Republic of Singapore Navy.

We welcome Joseph Lee Kong Loo to Aarhus and look forward to cooperate with him.
